    How to darn socks


    You will need: yarn, darning needle, darning mushroom or a ladle.

     

    • Choose yarn with the same thickness and color as the sock.
    • Sew a running stitch around the damaged area.
    • Tighten to original shape.
    • Sew vertically back and forth over the hole and make your way from right to left.
    • Working perpendicular to your last rows, start from the top and weave your needle through the previous stitches. 
    • Fasten thread, turn and repeat the weaving going over and under the strands.
    • When the darning patch is finished, weave in the tail.

    How to mend a seam

     

    You will need: thread, needle and sewing pins. 

     

    • Turn the garment inside out.
    • Pin the pieces together.
    • Sew with short stitches.
    • Fasten thread.

    How to repair a thumbhole

    You will need: thread and needle (and pins if the hole is big)

     

    • Sew the thumbhole sides together.
    • Attach the thumbhole to the sweater. If there’s loose threads or fibers try to insert them into the hole and sew over.
    • Fasten thread.

    How to iron on a patch

     

    You will need: iron, iron-on patch and parchment paper. 

     

    • Place the patch over the tear. If the hole is big, put parchment paper in between the two layers of fabric to ensure that the patch doesn't stick to both layers. 
    • To keep iron from sticking, place parchment paper on top of the patch.
    • Iron for ca 30 seconds.

    How to custom patch

     

    You will need: iron, vilene interfacing, marker, scissors, a mold, parchment paper, fabric, thread (optional), needle (optional)

     

    Method 1:

    • Klipp ut lapp og dobbeltsidig vliselin i samme fasong og størrelse.
    • Cut out a fabric and vilene patch in the same shape and size. 
    • Remove the paper from the vilene patch and place it over the hole.
    • Place the fabric patch on top of vilene.
    • To keep the iron from sticking, place parchment paper on top of the patch.
    • Iron for ca 30 seconds.

    Method 2: 

    • Pin sides and sew around the custom patch.  

    Method 3:

    • For an even stronger hold do method 1 followed by method 2.
